The Light 04:09
The Light I want freedom in this world that I know But it’s hard to let go It’s hard to let go I’ve been bleeding but my courage is strong The pain doesn’t show Yeah the pain never shows And I’m tied to the track To the trail That leads me back And tied to my faith In the shadows All I see is light All I need is a little hope All I see is light (2x) I cross the river, confronting every fear I am stronger just for standing here I will stay here and prove that I care for you this way I’ll hold my head up, and light up the night and with the First light of day I will learn to find my way Every step that I take CHORUS I’ll hold on tight on stand my ground Nothing else can keep me down CHORUS

HERE RIGHT NOW David Brownstein, Logan Heftel, and Shannon Hurley All my life I have felt behind Just once I want to feel like I arrived On time Lately I don’t know Where I am or where I’ll go Thought I would be there by now But I guess I’m here right now Wanted to be there by now But I don’t know where I’m bound Perfect sky in front of me Wonder where I’m meant to be but I’m here right now Guess I’m really here right now So close, yet so far away Wish I could hold you Hope it’s not too late I lost you and Lately I don’t know I need someone to call my own Thought I would be there by now But I guess I’m here right now Wanted to be there by now But I don’t know where I’m bound This great big world in front of me You’re where I really want to be but I’m here right now Guess I’m really here right now They say the world is small Why can’t I see it all It all Thought I would be there by now But I guess I’m here right now Wanted to be there by now But I don’t know where I’m bound Perfect sky in front of me Don’t know where I’m gonna be in a year from now But I guess I’m here right now Starting to see clearly now Darling can you hear me now Thought I would be there by now But I guess I’m here right now Wanted to be there by now But I don’t know where I’m bound Guess I’m really here right now

Silver Lining I can see a new horizon coming through the dawn We’re gonna find a new beginning in all that’s come and gone Say goodbye to cloudy Mondays say goodbye to rain I’ll hold you in my arms until we both feel safe again Somewhere I know There’s a silver lining Somewhere I know The light is shining through We’ll keep on searching Up in the gray sky Somewhere I know There’s a patch of blue Sometimes it can be hard to see beyond the distant past But we can’t walk forever on this broken glass I know that you’ve been hurt before and baby so have I We gotta learn to keep on living, learning to survive Somewhere I know There’s a silver lining Somewhere I know The light is shining through We’ll keep on searching Up in the gray sky Somewhere I know There’s a patch of blue Everything’s gonna be alright You can’t give up, you can’t move aside I’m with you for the long ride Don’t say it’s over Never close your eyes CH

NEVER BEEN IN LOVE Music & Lyrics by Shannon Hurley Holding you Feels so right Don’t wanna let go Keep my sun Burning bright After the glow Show me what it’s like to feel the fire Will you take the time to lift me higher Will you let me down, can we keep this alive Can I count on you as days go by NEVER BEEN IN LOVE NEVER BEEN IN LOVE NEVER BEEN IN LOVE NEVER BEEN IN LOVE If I Stay, will this change How far can we go If I should walk away Then I’ll never know Show me what it’s like to feel the fire Will you take the time to lift me higher Will you let me down, can we keep this alive Can I count on you as days go by NEVER BEEN IN LOVE NEVER BEEN IN LOVE NEVER BEEN IN LOVE NEVER BEEN IN LOVE If I let my walls come down Will the world keep spinning round Every time we touch will it be too much When my feet don’t hit the ground

Breaking Me Slowly Music & Lyrics by Andy Wilson & Shannon Hurley You hold me so softly You kiss me so sweetly You move me so deeply that my heart has come undone You're breaking me slowly You have me completely You give my life meaning Wherever you lead me, believe me I will always go There's nothing I'm hiding with you here beside me It took sometime for me to find you I thought that I was fine alone Now I feel your love unfolding You're breaking me slowly You're breaking me slowly This is something better than we ever could have dreamed We're standing on the edge and now I'm starting to believe You're breaking me slowly You're breaking me slowly... It took sometime for me to find you I thought that I was fine alone A love like this just keeps on falling Keep breaking me slowly You're breaking me slowly You're breaking me slowly

Won’t Hold Me Down Lyrics by Shannon Hurley I’ve seen rain enough to flood this town I’ve seen wind enough to chase my doubts around I’ve been to hell and back, I’ve hit the ground But that won’t hold me down That won’t hold me down That won’t hold me down That won’t hold me down The stories change but I’m still the same You knock me over but I feel no pain You start a fire but I don’t fear the flame No that won’t hold me down That won’t hold me down That won’t hold me down That won’t hold me down Did you say I’d never get over you You’re wrong again, my friend With every step I’m further away from you And in my mind I’ve finally reached the end That won’t hold me down That won’t hold me down That won’t hold me down That won’t hold me down.

Angelyne 04:25
ANGELYNE Music & Lyrics by Shannon Hurley They say you are the billboard queen you know The stars are in your eyes and there is glamour all around you You came here from a small town long ago You hoped you’d be discovered now the world has finally found you Though it may not be the way you planned Angelyne, Angelyne Was there ever any doubt Angelyne, Angelyne Did you ever feel so proud as when you’re driving down the streets at night Walking past the city lights that shine for Angelyne You step out of a bus into the world You try to find a romance but the camera loves you better Suddenly you’re everybody’s girl But you can’t always count on them to bring you sunny weather It’s not quite how you wanted to be known Angelyne, Angelyne Was there ever any doubt Angelyne, Angelyne Did you ever feel so proud as when you’re driving down the streets at night Walking past the city lights that shine for Angelyne You break hearts with your smile You turn heads, that's your style But deep down Something is missing Where do you draw the line? I see you walking down the Boulevard Everybody knows you there is no way they’ll forget you Looking down, your name is in a star You built this place yourself and all the stories that surround you Your fantasies came true in real life Angelyne, Angelyne Was there ever any doubt Angelyne, Angelyne Did you ever feel so proud as when you’re driving down the streets at night Walking past the city lights that shine for Angelyne Angelyne, Angelyne Angelyne, Angelyne Angelyne, Angelyne Did you ever feel so proud as when you’re driving down the streets at night Walking past the city lights that shine for Angelyne.

PARADISE HAS FALLEN By David Brownstein/Shannon Hurley I used to think you were the special one You told me so But tell me now is this love? Out on the freeway I'm alone again The setting sun my only friend in the dark BEHIND THE SCENES THE BROKEN DREAMS I KNOW THIS MEANS ANOTHER LIFE IS CALLING THE WORLD I KNOW IS FAR BEHIND ANOTHER PLACE PARADISE HAS FALLEN We move like strangers, we don’t talk the same We hold the pain, we put the blame somewhere else We change the subject and we walk away With empty souls, I just can’t take anymore, anymore BEHIND THE SCENES THE BROKEN DREAMS I KNOW THIS MEANS ANOTHER LIFE IS CALLING THE WORLD I KNOW IS FAR BEHIND ANOTHER PLACE PARADISE HAS FALLEN I'll survive the very darkest days I'm not afraid, I know it's time to be strong Because I've got exactly what it takes My heart is brave, this battle's meant to be won I’m moving on BEHIND THE SCENES THE BROKEN DREAMS I KNOW THIS MEANS ANOTHER LIFE IS CALLING THE WORLD I KNOW IS FAR BEHIND ANOTHER PLACE PARADISE HAS FALLEN

about

Album Review from "The Daily Album":

Indie rock, singer songwriter, alternative pop? Not quite sure how to label this, but if any of those genres appeals to you, Hurley’s latest will be sure to please.
Today’s artist has seen her share of successes over the past six or seven years. After being named one of Rolling Stone’s best 25 artists on MySpace following her 2007 debut Ready to Wake Up, Shannon Hurley has published two more LPs prior to The Light. Hurley’s songs have been featured on a plethora of television series, including: American Idol, The Lying Game, 90210, and So You Think You Can Dance. She is also 1/2 the electronic duo Lovers & Poets with husband Ben Eisen.

Her latest release, The Light follows in the pop-rock, singer-songwriter style of her previous efforts. The writing and composition is solid from start to finish, without a weak track in this collection of ten new pieces. Hurley ups her production level, with an album that is increasingly polished without going over the top in an effort to achieve a mainstream sound. Just catchy enough to draw you in and pay attention to the metaphor-driven lyrics. Which, by the way, are one of the highlights of the album.

Hurley begins with the powerful and hopeful title track, and between the simple, hypnotic piano work and Hurley’s airy vocals, there is little not to like about this tune. The bridge offers a nice change from the pounding key-driven beat, and Hurley’s message comes across loud and clear. It’s no wonder that Shannon’s music makes it to the screen with such frequency; this is exactly the type of music that producers fall in love with. Pleasant on the ear and with a nice bell-curved emotional scheme. As the tune draws to an end, it’s like a nice, gentle crescendo.

Hurley takes a page out of Enya’s new age playbook with “Silver Lining”, an ethereal piece that is based more on a vision than on a distinct emotion or situation. Hurley plays well with metaphors and with figurative language in general, toying with ideas of expression rather than hammering things out bluntly, and on tracks like this, her lyrical prose is a nice complement to the instrumentation. Though Hurley imparts a seriously ambient and downtempo feel on “Silver Lining”, I feel that this one is ripe for an EDM mix. Just sayin’.

In stark contrast to the mood of “Silver Lining”, Hurley presents “Never Been In Love” and “Paradise Has Fallen”, which rely a bit more heavily on electro and dance elements, though to say that they are EDM would be a mistake. Really, they draw more on funk, r&b and disco, mixing melancholy and motion — sad songs that make you want to dance. I think ABBA had some luck with this idea, and Hurley finds success here as well, though her more pensive pieces are the strongest of this collection. “Angelyne” is a beautiful tune that one senses is a bit more first person than the lyrics let on. The most intriguing song, however, is the extra-terrestrial tune “Calling Occupants”. Channeling The Beatles and Radiohead, Hurley pushes the boundaries of this album far beyond what you’d expect from the title track. Kudos to Shannon for including this track and closing with a curious but awesome present.

Hurley has seen her share of good and bad, and her experiences are worth a read — you can check out her bio over at her website. It’s obvious that her travels and her encounters with life have shaped her songwriting, especially over the past few years. Hurley stays close to what she knows works with a few tracks but also pushes the envelope on quite a few tracks. Indie rock, singer songwriter, alternative pop? I’m not quite sure how to label this, but if any of those genres appeals to you, Hurley’s latest will be sure to please.
